Letter from Park and Recreation Association, Subject: Membership Applica-
tion. Thanking Commission for their membership and notifying them that
they will receive the first magazine this month.
Letter and Pamphlet from Weaver, Talle � Herrick Law Firm, Subject: Admini-
strative and Enforcement of Land Use Controls. Commission agreed that
the pamphlet would be of more interest to the Planning Commission.
Letter from Anoka-Hennepin District #11, Subject: Horseshoe League. They
are organizing a N.E. Horseshoe League and would like a list of names
of those who would be interested.
Letter from Hockey Association, Subject: Letter of Thanks. Thanking Depart-
ment for the excellent maintenance and organization at the Commons J. C.
Hockey Rink last winter.
Questionaire: Your Opinions, Please. Results were presented to the Commis-
sion for their future reference and general information.
DIRECTORS REPORT
Work Progress Report
Vandalism will be on the upswing. Vandalism signs are being posted in hopes
of curbing this problem. The diamonds are being pregared as soon as the
parks begin to dry out from Spring. The Director is to investigate with the
County Agent what would be.best to plant on �the west end of Locke Park to
fight the weed problem existing there now.
Parks and Recreation Memorandum
Tree Beautification Bid was let to Bob's Produce. All ti�inter activities end-
ed with very successful results. BepartmEnt has worked out details with North-
ern States Power for a larger transformer installation at the Commons.
Preliminary Report
A preli:ninary report of Park P-2, Sununit Square, wa.s preser.ted by the Director.
This consisted of a summary letter to the Mayor and City Council, maps and

sketches, estimated costs, and construction and equipment charts. The
Commission agreed that this report is the proper way to go about planning
our parks.
/"� * Chairman Hughes is to discuss with the Planning Commission the possibility
� of closing Eiughes Avenue between the North and South Parcels of Summit
Square or maybe vacating it during certain hours of the day for park pur-
poses and safety. �
PLANS AND OBJECTIVES
Program for 1968
The Commission discussed, revised, and adopted a program for 1968 concerning
land acquisitions, park development, additianal recreational programs, expan-
sion of present recreational programs, and park planning.
MOTION by Spence, seconded by Cochran, to adopt the Program for 1968 as
amended. The Motion Carried. �
QLD BUSINESS
Park Planning and Maintenance Supervisor
1'he Department still needs a maintenance supervisor. The Commission feels
that the City Manager should handle the personnel hiring.
Tree Beautification Program
� A contract has been awarded to Bob's Produce, 6520 East River Road, for 150
� Green Ash trees. The first fifty (SO) trees will be for Parks. The remaining
one hundred (100) trees will be planted in the path of the storm on boulevard
easements. �
NEW BUSINESS
City Planner
Ed Braddock, Chief Engineer, Minneapolis Park Board, present at the meeting,
stated that there is a great need for a park, recreation, and athletic consul-
tant. Either the Director or the Commission Chairman will meet with Mr.
Braddock about a schedule of fees.

The INeeting was adjourned at 11:35 P.M.
The next regular Meeting will be held on Monday, April 24, 1967, at 8:00 P.M.
at the Fridley City Hall.
