The Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Dunphy at 8:00 P.M.

MOTION by Cochran, seconded by Spence, that the July 24, 1967 Minutes be
• accepted as mailed. The Motion Carried.
MINUTES, JULY 31, 1967
MOTION by Cochran, seconded by Dunphy, that the July 31, 1967 Minutes be
accepted as mailed. The Motion Carried.
LETTERS
MOTION was made and seconded �o accept the letter of thank you from the Fridley
Jaycees concerning 'the .Jaycees State Softball Tournament and the letter from
the Acting City Manager to the County Auditor concerning the Altura P'roperty
� for the records. The Motion Carried.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT

Parks and Recreation Memorandw�n
Vandalism in the city parks has dropped considerably this past month as com-
pared to previous months.
Annual Report
In the 1965-1966 Annual Report, under the sub-title,.,Parks and Recreatiom Com-
mission, it states: This Commission is a subcommittee of the Planning Commis-
sion. The Commission agrees that the ordinance concerning this subject makes
this group a separate Commission and not a part of the Planning Commission.
Land Acquisitian and Development Report - Mr. Braddock, Park Consultant
j According to Mr. Braddock, by looking at a map of the City, any properties that
fall into an overall picture as best serving the majority of the areas should
be acquired. Mr. Braddock and Mr. Brown presented three repc�rts to the Commis-
sion. First report covered possibilities for Land Acquisition. Second report
covered possibilities for Park Development and the final report was the total
figures, estimating costs of both 3tegort 1 and Report 2. The Commission then
worked out a program which includes land acquisition and development for parks
within the City of Fridley. The final program wi11 be presented to the City
^ Council at a meeting to be set at a later dat�.

Melody Manor Park Property Naming
MOTION by Cochran, seconded by Spence, that the park en 73rd Avenue N.E. bet-
ween Memory Lane and Jackson Street be designated as Madsen Park in honor of
the late Ernest I�ladsen, who was influential in developing the area which this
park will serve. Mr. D9adsen was also Village Manager of Fridley from Aiarch 1,
• 1954 to June 15, 1957. The Motion Carried.

' A Special Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting will be held with the City
Council at a later date.

P.M. at the Fridley City Hall.
