PROPERTY ADJOINING CRAIG PARK
Mr. Fitzpatrick called the Commissioner's attention to the letter from Muske -
Tansey Company, regarding some property which is presently vacant, and adjoins .
Craig Park on the West boundary. The owner would like to sell this property to
the City at a cost of $7,500.00. Mr. Fitzpatrick asked for comments on the property.
Mr. Brown stated that he had discussed the property with Darrel Clark, who is in
charge of the Building Inspection Department, and they had decided that the asking
price was too high and development or undevelopment of the lot would not have any
major effect on the Park. We presently use the property for access to the Park
for maintenance purposes, but the loss of this access would not create any problems.
Mr. Kirkham said that we don't have any money for purchase in 1973. Mr. Brown
said that this wouldn't be a problem because the purchase of land in the 1973
nBudget is not itemized.
Mr. Fitzpatrick said that we shou2d answer the letter, informing the realtor and
seller that we're not interested in purchasing the property. Mr. Kirkham said
that he doesn't feel there is a need to purchase this property. The Commissioners
and Mr. Brown agreed.

Mr. Fitzpatrick turned•theCommissioner's attention to the article which had been
mailed out, regarding a playground accident in California, in which a City had to
pay $25,000.00 in damages and a hospital and doctor were required to pay $4,000,000.00
in damages. Mr. Fitzpatrick asked just what the City of Fridley's liability would
be in a similiar incident, and Mr. Brown explained that the City would be liable,
only is negligence on the part of the City, could be proven.
CLOSIN6 OF ICE SKATING RINKS FOR SEASON
The Commission asked for reasoning on the closing date for the ice skating rinks.
hir. rotitin explained that there was only a certain aMOUnt of money available anci that
n the rinks were closed around the middle of February every year. Ir. Brown went on
to explain that since two teams in the Hockey Association were involved in District
play, that the Commons Hockey rinks had remained open on two days, in order that the
teams might practice. He said that Minneapolis closed most of their rinks about
this same time, but that they remained open at some of the major locations, in order
