The conditions contained herein shall be considered as re or the proposed project. A written
response or additional documents may be necessary and are due prior to completion of the Final
Inspection and approval for issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy or Fire Department permit
completion.You may contact the Office of the Fire Marshal at (763) 572-3621 for additional information.
1. Demolition and construcrion activities shall be governed by requirements of 2007 MSFC Chapter 14, Fixe
Safety During Demolition and Construction, and NFPA Standard 241 (2000), Standard for Safeguarding
Construction,Alterarion, and Demolition Operarions.
2. Modify the fire sprinkler system as necessary compliant with provisions of 2002 NFPA Standard 13,
Installation of Sprinkler Systems, for alterarion or construcrion work shown on reviewed plan. City FD
permit required prior to initiation of work. (2007 MSFC Secrions 105.7.1, 901.4 and 2002 NFPA Standard
13)
a. The Yequixed sprinkler design density of the building fire sprinkler system shall include modification
foY the proposed use of space ox building. (2002 NFPA Standard 13)
3. Modificarion,alterarion or installation of a fite alarm system or equipment xequires the fite alarm contractor
to apply for and receive a City of Fridley FD permit prior to initiation of woYk. A State of Minnesota
Electrical Permit may also be required thxough the Ciry of Fridley Inspections Department. RequiYed fire
alarm permit submittal documents are provided in 2007 MSFC 907.1.1. (2007 MSFC 105.7.4)
4. Install emergency egress illumination in the means of egress including e�t dischaxge compliant with 2007
MSFC Section 1006, Means of Egress illumination.
5. Install compliant e�t signage as required. (2007 MSFC Section 1011)
6. Provide and install dry chemical fire extinguishers certified for service as required. Service classification
rating shall be a m;nimum 2A classificarion rating and maxixnum travel distance of 75 feet to exringuishers.
The ininimum classification rating may be upgraded for special or extra hazard areas within the occupancy.

a. Portable fire extinguishers shall also be installed in an unobscured, unobstructed location. If view of
fire extinguisher is obscured or obstructed, approved fire extinguisher signage shall be installed to
identify fire extinguisher location. (2007 MSFC 906.5 and 906.6)
b. When mounted in e�t passageways or corridors, extinguisher mountings or cabinets shall not
obstruct the egress path by more than 4 inches. (2007 MSFC Secrion 1003.3.3)
c. Fire extinguishers shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 60 inches
above the floor if 40 pounds or less gross weight. If the extinguisher has a gross weight exceeding
40 lbs,the extinguisher shall be installed with the top not more than 3-1/2 feet above the floor. The
minimum distance above the floor shall be not less than 4 inches. (2007 MSFC 906.9)
.,7. � Provide information concerning interior fmish materials used for this project. Interior finish materials shall
be classified as required by 2007 MSFC Section 803 as to flame spread and smoke development
characteristics. Interior wall and ceiling fmish shall have a flame spread index not greater than that specified
in 2007 MSFC Table 803.3 for the group of proposed occupancy and location of interiox fmish.
8. Inspect the unprotected space between the ceiling and roof deck and remove all abandoned utilities,
combustible materials and storage from the unprotected space between the dYOpped ceiling and roof deck.

9. The required fiYe-Yesistance rating of rated construction shall be maintained. Openings through rated
construction for the passage of wiring, sleeves, conduit,piping, etc. shall be protected by repair with
approved materials which maintains the rating of the construction damaged, altered, breeched or penetrated.

10. Rooms containing controls for air-conditioning systems, sprinkler risers and valves, or other fire detection,
suppression or control elements shall be identified fox the use of the fire depaxtment. Approved signs
required to idenrify fire protection equipment and eyuipment location, shall be constructed of durable
materials,permanendy installed and xeadily visible. (2007 MSFC 510.1)
11. Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be marked with a plainly visible and legible sign stating
"ELECTRICAL ROOM". The disconnecting means for each service, feeder or branch circuit originating
on a switchboard or panelboard shall be legibly and durably marked to indicate its purpose unless such
purpose is clearly evident. (2007 MSFC 605.3.1)
12. Following completion of construction and approval of systems requiring Fire Departtnent construcrion
permits, the Fire Marshal will assist in a Certificate of Occupancy inspection. Please notify City Inspections
or the Fire Marshal Office for that inspection.
