Dear Mr. Zweig:
Fridley City Code 105 states that it is unlawful to maintain property in the City upon which weeds, grass,
or rank vegetation exceeds ten (10) inches in height; or other noxious growth exists as outlined in the
ordinance. (Ordinance summary is on reverse side of this letter.) This was enacted to protect the health
and safety of the community and its residents.
A recent inspection of the above referenced property revealed conditions which are not in compliance
with this ordinance. It is important that you take appropriate steps to correct this situation immediately.
A reinspection will be conducted on or shortly after July 8, 1996, at which time full compliance is
expected. Should this deficiency still exist, a citation will be issued and the City will intervene by causing
such weeds, -grass, brush, and other vegetation on the lot or land to be cut and removed.
In the event the City abates the condition, the actual cost of such cutting plus up to 25% for inspection
and other additional costs will be certified by the City to Anoka County and will become a a lien upon
the property.

WEED ORDINANCE SUMMARY
It shall be unlawful for any owner, lessee, or occupant, or any agent, servant,
representative or employee of any such owner, lessee, or occupant having control of
any occupied or unoccupied lot or land to:
Permit or maintain any growth of weeds, grass, brush, or rank vegetation to a
greater height than 10 inches on average.
Allow the accumulation of dead weeds, grass, brush, or rank vegetation.
Allow poison ivy, ragweed, or other poisonous plants, or plants detrimental to the
health to grow and affect any public place.
Duty
It is the duty of any owner, lessee, or occupant, or any agent, servant, representative or
employee of any such owner, lessee, or occupant having control of any occupied or
unoccWied lot or land to:
Cut and remove or cause to be cut and removed all such weeds, grass, brush, or
other rank, poisonous, or harmful vegetation. (Cutting and removing such
weeds, grass, and vegetation at least once in every three weeks between May
15 and September 15 shall be deemed to be in compliance.)
Intervention by the City
The City shall serve a written notice upon the owner of any such lot or land. If the
person upon whom the notice is served fails, neglects, or refuses to cut or remove said
items, the City shall cause such weeds, grass, brush, and other vegetation on the lot or
land to be removed.
Cost of such cutting and removal, plus up to 25%, shall be certified by the City to
Anoka County.
Cost will become a lien upon the property, upon which such weeds, grass,
brush, and other vegetation are located.
Penalties
Any violation of this Chapter is a misdemeanor.
