I received a call from a city engineer on August 3, 1976
concerning the installation of my concrete driveway.
The driveway must be installed according to the following
specifications with no exceptions,
1) Design mix - 4000 PSI concrete ( 3 air )
2) 4 inch minimum thickness to match existing
cross section.
3) 6X6 - 10/10 welded wire fabric placed at
mid, point of slab thickness.
4) Light broom finish.
5) Two coats of Thompson Water Seal or equal.
6) Two test cylinders to be taken from each
load of ready mix and turned over to me.
7) Expansion joint and control joints to be
Installed. at same spacing and pattern as
existing driveway. The conrete drive
must be placed. in two seperate pours,
24 hours apart to allow for proper curing.
8) Concrete drive to placed on 6 inch compact
sand bub -base.
I contendthat the manner in which the excavation was
backfilled is not according to common practices. Project
specifications usually indicate that backfill should be
placed in maximum 12 inch lifts for compaction. It is
my opinion'that the excavation as backfilled will
settle excessively. If the new concrete drive is placed
over the excavation as presently backfilled and settle-
ment of the driveway occurs later, I will require the
City of Frid.ely to replace the driveway at no expense
to me.
