This violation was never corrected. Our follow-up inspection regarding compliance to the letter noted the following items that needed to be corrected; 1. Submit building plans and obtain a building permit. 2. Maximum spacing between spindles of 8 inches (todays code is 4 inch maximum). 3. Riser height varies on stairs from lower to upper decks and from ground to lower deck (maximum 8 inch rise allowed). 4. Install maximum 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch grippable handrail on stairs. 5. Beams nailed to post - not direct bearing. 6. Joist hangers on only M of beam. 7. There is a 35 inch cantilever - Code only allows 24 inches. 8. There is no guardrail or handrail on open side of stairs on 2°d deck. 9. The joists on the 2"d deck are over -spanned. We also question the size and depth of the footing and the support under the hot tub. The above corrections must be completed before the City can approve the construction of the decks.
