Re: Swimming Pool Construction at 5581 Matterhorn Drive N.E.
Dear Sirs:
This letter is to make -clear this department's requirements for the swimming
pool construction at the above address
1. As indicated, two (2) skimmers approved by the National Sanitation
Foundation will be provided.
2. As indicated, four (4), inlets of approved design for fresh -and/or
repurified water will be provided.
3. As indicated, a main drain of approved construction will be provided.
4. The filter and pump shall be approved by the N.S.F. and be of
sufficient capacity to provide a minimum turnover of at least two (2).
times in 24 hours. This department recommends a turnover rate of
6 - 8 hours.
5.' A deck of at least three (3). feet wide, measured from the pool waters
edge, shall be provided which extends completely around all private
residential pools. Above ground private residential pools may be
provided with. decking of a minimum si.ze of 4 feet by 4 feet at pool
entry points and provided that such decking has the approval of the City.
6. The diving area will be acceptable provided there is no overhead
obstruction.
7. Fencing or other effective means including but not limited to walls.
or buildings, acceptable to the City, shall be provided to positively
control all access to public and private residential swimming pools.
Fencing shall meet the following criteria:
(a) The fencing shall prevent the entrance of children and be without
hand or foot holds that would enable a person to climb over it.
(b) The fencing shall be at least 6 feet high and entrances shall be
equipped with self-closing and self -latching gates capable of
being locked.
(c) Self-closing and self -latching devices shall be placed at the top
of the gate or otherwise inaccessible to small children.
(d) The opening between the bottom of the fence and the ground or
other surface shall be not more than four inches.
8. An automatic chlorinator should be provided with a suitable test ki.t.
9.. All electrical and plumbing installations shall be inspected and
approved by the City Inspection Department.

10. All overhead electrical lines must be a minimum of 10 feet horizontally
from the pool surface and 18 feet straight line distance from the
waters edge. An alternative is to bury said lines.
11. The pool fill spout must be protected by a vacuum breaker or air -gapped.
12. Suitable safety equipment to include but not limited to a ring buoy
and rope that is 1ij times the pool diameter, and shepherds crook pole
must be provided and maintained with the pool at all times.
Furthermore, these and any other requirements must meet the provisions of
the Fridley City Code, Section 115,.Swimming Pools. • The building permit is
approved contingent on final inspections and approval by the City.

GENERAL INSPECTION REMARKS
The completed pool shall be inspected to assure that the
entire filter system is free of leaks, the tank is clean
and disinfected and proper safety precautions are implemented
by the owner. The specifications do not cover decks, however,
supervision to assure proper installation of ladders is
provided.
These specifications omit sanitary sewer, bath and wading
areas. N:innetonka Pools, Inc. shall maintain temporary con-
struction fencing to warn passers-by of the excavation and
equipment. It shall be the owners responsibility to furnish
necessary additional safety equipment. ?here are not port-
able water sources included in these specifications or in the
pool area.
These specification shall supercede any and all former
specifications published with regard to this pool by this
company.

LOCATIONo
the pool is to be located as shown on detail print. The
filter and heater are to be on the grade of the pool in the
location indicated. The existing building and terrace shall
be the determining source of placing and elevation.
FOOI i
The construction of the pool wall is of 14 gauge copper
bearing steel, with 2 oz. of copper bearing galvanized per sq.
ft. as manufactured by FOX Fools with a 2" mason sand bottom.
The steel wall erection shall be accomplished as directed by
Installation Manual, issued by FOX pools.
The pool design shall follow specifically the configuration as
shown on drawing, P-ain drain to be 2" deeper for proper flow
or water while filtering. The transition as shown on plan.
GROUNDING AND HOOK-UPt
The steel panels, the steel concrete reinforcing, the deck
reinforcing, ladders and any other miscellaneous metal fixture
within 10 feet of the Fool perimeter will be grounded to conform
with State Electrical Code. See print cross section for con-
nection details.
The filtration pump shall be wired to a minimum of 100 ANiP
circuit, 230 volts utilizing a circuit breaker and onepull
switch. All mechanical electric components are to be installed
to N:innesota State Code. These specifications are not to in-
clude any service to filter area.
DISINFECTANTS
Chlorinator, hrosion.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY EQUIPVINTi
The pool equipment shall include the following items: One test
kit containing accurate tests for chlorine residual, PH test,
alkalinity content and acid demand.
The vacuum system shall cc•rs.lr," c -f one vacuum hose, one vacuum
sweep, and one collalsable pole.
The cleaning equipment shall be one wall brush and one leaf
and debris rake. The pool shall be equipped with one.- two
tread stainless steel ladder and one 3 tread SS ].adder be placed
as indicated on location print. The ladders shall be removable
to facilitate cleaning.
The safety rope shall be placed at the transition point from
shallow to deep dsid consist of 1" nylon rope and S floats.
A schematic showirr. operation, backwash, balance and priming
shall be posted near filter area. qhe schematic shall be
labeled as to each gh e valve and ::how sequence of operation

All piping shall be located as to meet state code. The skimmer
and return lines are to be 12" black plastic 80 lb. test pipe.
The main drain is to be 1j" 80 lb. test black pipe. All joints
that are buried are to be nylon or FVC double clamped and caulked.
External manifolds of 12" galvanized steel and copper gate valves
shall make the control manifold as shown on print. The pool tank'

REQUIREMENTS FOR SWIMMING POOLS FOR THE CITY OF
FENCE CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS.
Subd. 1. All outdoor swimming pools existing and hereafter constructed
shall be completely enclolsed by a fence or wall. All openings or
points of entry into the pool area enclosure shall be equipped with gates. �� ,
The wall or fence and gates shall be at least t feet in height ander ,,W,,,x
if a fence, the fence shall be constructed of a minimum number eleven gauge ,
woven wire mesh corrosion—resistant material or other materials approved
by the Building Inspector. All gates shall be equipped with self—closing
and self—latching devices capable of being locked placed on the top of the gate
or otherwise inaccessible to small children. All fence posts shall be decay
or corrosion—resistant and shall be set in concrete bases, or other
suitable protection. The opening between the bottom of the fence and the
ground or other surface shall be not more than three inches.
Subd. 2. No portion of any swimming pool or appurtenances thereto
shall be located at a distance of less than ten (10) feet to any existing
portion of a sewage system, nor shall any water supply line for a swimming
pool be less than fifteen (15) feet to any existing portion of a sewage system.
