Fridley, MN 55432 Re: Seal Coat Complaint Dear Mr. Leino: TELEPHONE ( 812)571-3450 Mayor Nee has requested that I reply to your letter of August 21, 1982 on the above subject. The gravel that you are referring to is a result of the seal coating work done on your street in the Melody Manor area. This work consists of placing a bonding application of asphalt covered with pea gravel as a means of improving the traction and extending the street surface life. An excess amount of gravel is applied in order to insure that the asphalt is completely covered and the gravel is compacted into the surface. The surface application needs to be done when the weather is warm in order to obtain maximum bonding and material adhesion. After a period of approximately three weeks, the excess gravel is removed. This leaves a hard, new surface that should extend the life of the street from three to six years without major repair work. Because of the need for heat to make this seal coat application work, it cannot be accomplished in the late fall or early winter. I am sorry that this maintenance work has inconvienced you, but in order to improve and extend the investment involved on our streets, this is necessary. The excess material will be removed shortly and you should find that you will have a safer road surface on which to travel. If I can provide you any additional information, pleae call me at 571-3450.
