A one foot layer of black organic sand topsoil was noted from 2-1/2- 3-1/2'beneath the rear footing. Hand auger holes to 4' indicated that only the rear footing was involved. The excavation was partially completed to about one foot below the organic soil when we arrived on the site. Black to gray fine sand was evident below the topsoil. Based on the foregoing we recommended removal of just the organic seam, with backfill to consist of the mineral soils from the lot. The footings should have 244 reinforcement bars continued around the house as the site varies from natural to fill conditions. A density test taken on April 5 indicated 92% of modified Proctor, which is satisfactory. Please call if you have any questions.
