In placing the concrete curb and gutter for storm water drainage on Monroe Street, it was required in some instances to adjust the elevation from the existing asphalt berms in order to provide for proper flow. In your particular location, because of a depression in the street, the concrete curb was raised 6 inches above that which it had previously been. This was necessary in order to provide for proper surface water flow. In a normal back filling process of the curbs, we have gone back approximately three sod widths to blend into the yards. In your particular case, because of the exceptional raising of the curb, we will, when the sod farms open this spring, remove the existing sod in the boulevard area, place fill in the front yard and resod in an attempt to fill the depression that has resulted. In this process, we will allow for surface flow onto the driveway and into the street to eliminate ponding that could occur in the front yard. While the driveways were put in late in the year, the construction was proper and within specifications. In reviewing your driveway, we have not found any improper asphalt. We did notice that along the edges where the roller compressed the asphalt, it resulted in extruding the material to the sides which gives_ the appearance of minimum thickness. Be assured that in the driveway area, there is in excess of 2 inches of asphalt. Because of your concern with the appearance of the driveway surface, we will have the contractor provide a fog treatment on the driveway surface this spring when he does his remedial work. This fog treatment consists of an application of asphalt mist which seals the surface. We anticipate completion of this work in May of this year, predicated upon the availability of sod in this area. I hope that with the accomplishment of these items, you will be satisfied with the work that was completed on Monroe Street.
