EXCAVATION INSPECTIONS
On September 1, 1977, our firm was called on to conduct excavation
inspections at the referenced site. Upon our arrival, the excava-
tion had proceeded from the eastern toward the western end of the
proposed building. Fill had already been placed in the center. For
this reason we made various hand auger borings through the fill and
a test pit was dug by the excavating contractor to expose underlying
soils. Various.trips were made to the site during the excavating
process to monitor the removal of all unsuitable material. Upon
completing the excavation in the west, an attempt was made to finish
the excavation along the east side. This area had previously been
excavated, but the adjacent sidewalls had caved in prior to the
backfilling, thus trapping unsuitable material below. Because of

further sloughing of the east side of the excavation and the
apparent detrimental effects such action could have on the building
located directly to the east, excavating was stopped on September 2,
1977. We were recalled on October 4 to conduct density tests. We
had not been notified of the excavation of the east side. Therefore,
two test pits were dug on October 5, in the extreme east end of the
proposed building to determine if all unsuitable materials had been
removed from below the proposed house and the oversize.
Although soil test borings have not been done in this particular
lot, our experience with similar soils in the immediate area indicate
the soil exposed in the excavation will provide adequate bearing
capacities for the proposed building.
Based on our observations of the excavations, the results of hand
auger borings, and soils exposed in the test pits, it is our con-
clusion that unsuitablerlying the proposed building and
within the oversize a a (1 : 1) ave been satisfactorily removed.
FIELD DENSITY TESTS
Eight field density tests were taken at the referenced site. The
tests were done using the Density of Soil in Place by the Sand Cone
method as outlined by ASTM D 1556.
Two Modified Proctor Density Tests (Moisture -Density Relation of
Soils using a 10 lb. Rammer and 18" Drop (ASTM D 1557-70) were also
conducted. Relative density was then computed by dividing the field
density by the Proctor density, expressed as a percentage.

that the material placed to footing grade has been placed and compacted
in a suitable manner and adequate compaction has been achieved.

Dear Mr. Bernard:
A mechanical permit was issued on November 4, 1999 for the installation of a furnace at
your address. According to Section 305(a) of the 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code, a
final inspection shall be performed on the mechanical permit. As of this date no
inspection has been called for.
The permit fee that was paid covers the inspector's time to check to make sure the
appliance was installed correctly. We also need to check for the installation of
combustion air, vent and connector sizing.
If you would like the installation inspected, please contact us within 30 days to arrange
the inspection. If we do not hear from you we will expire the permit and note that no
inspection were called for.
