"B" Unit Since the lower level of this unit does not have 10 percent of the floor area in windows and furthermore the laundry utility area has no windows at all, it has been determined that both mechanical ventilation and combustion air must be provided. A. Mechanical Ventilation 1. Laundry Utility Room 550 Cubic feet x 2 (air changes per hour) = 1100 cubic feet/hour or 18 cubic feet/minute 2. Bathroom 350 cubic feet x 5 (air changes per hour) = 1750 cubic feet/hour or 29 cubic feet/minute If one fan is used and a clear opening is provided between bathroom and utility room, one fan with a rating of 50 cfm will be adequate. However, if one fan is used, there must be a switch in each of the two areas being served. B. Combustion Air 1. If a door is provided separating the laundry utility room from.the rest of the lower level, it must be louvered. 2. Provide an opening into the cold air side of the heating system direct to the outside which has 14 square inches of area. (A 4 inch diameter -pipe would be adequate.) Provide a 14 square inch opening in hot air duct in the utility room which cannot be shut. 2. Provide an opening into the cold air side of the heating system direct to the outside which has 14 square inches of area. (A 4 inch diameter pipe would be adequate.)
