Re: Norton Manor Town Houses
Fridley, Minnesota
WTM Job No. 2127.
Dear Mr. Juaire:
This is to certify that I have reviewed your Fax dated July 10, 2003. The 5/8 inch diameter Kwik
Bolt R anchor bolts drilled into the concrete 7 inches is satisfactory in lieu of %a inch cast in
anchors.
Your item 2 is acceptable because the sum of the construction parts you propose are greater than
the sum of the parts I required.
The method shown m your sketch is an acceptable way to tie the anchor bolts from the footing to
the shear panel. I suggest you eliminate the top wooden plate and use a steel plate. Fill the space
below the steel plate with solid jack studs. The end grain is much better m bearing than side
grain. Nails through the studs into the blocking will help.
I have marked your 2 Faxed sheets SK2127-3 and SK2127-4.
In my opinion, the above will be satisfactory and meet building code requirements.
Please feel free tocall me should you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
W. T. McCalla, P. Eng.

Re: Vertical Diaphragms
Norton Manor Town Houses
Fridley, Minnesota
WTM Job No. 2127.
Dear Mr. Juaire:
This is to certify that I have reviewed plans for the above by Robert Baker, Architect. For the 3
diaphragms surrounding the overhead garage doors, use the 15/32 or greater plywood sheathing
on UBC page 2-287 and marked SK2127-1. Follow the indicated nail schedules on that sheet.
Use 2 3/4 inch diameter anchor bolts for each diaphragm and set as far as possible to the outer
edges, These bolts should be anchored in the continuous footings with a 4 inch square plate
washer under the bolt head.
The rear ,5 vertical diaphragm panels (between and outside windows) should have an exterior
sheathing either red or orange and an interior wallboard either purple or red. All joints shall be
blocked where shown as blocked construction. Both exterior and interior gypsum board are
shown on UBC page 2-382 and marked SK2127-2. Use 1/2 inch anchor bolts at 4 foot center to
center.
All footings should have 2 No. 4 bars continuous 3 inches clear from bottom. Strap ties must tie
the wall studs to the -,sill plate and to the trusses and stud to stud at the first floor.
In my opinion, the above will be satisfactory and meet building code requirements.
Please feel free to call me should you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
W. T. McCalla, P. Eng.
