Mr. Schultz would like to place a central air conditioning unit on the side on his house, adjacent to Locke Lake Park. As per the city code #124.05 pertaining to central air conditioning equipment, Mr. Schultz needs a permit from the City of Fridley to install the unit in his side yard. Since the unit would be on the side of the house facing the park, I have been asked to approve this placement of the air conditioning unit. I see no problem with installing the unit on the side of the house adjacent to Locke Lake Park, however, I would recommend placement of a fence around the air conditioning unit. A fence would serve two purposes 1) to protect the air conditioning unit itself and 2) to keep children from having access to it. If you have any questions.please give me a call. The property owners of 11 Rice Creek Way N.E. wish to construct an unenclosed deck at the rear of their home. A portion of the stairway to the deck will extend into a ten foot drainage easement along the west lot line. I have prepared a resolution authorizing the encroachment of the deck into the easement. The Engineering Department has reviewed the request and has determined that the proposed encroachment will not adversely affect drainage in the area. Further, there are no underground utility lines in this location. Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing a two foot encroachment into the drainage easement. Ms. Dacy stated that the variance re est is in two parts: (1) to acknowledge an existing encroachmen from the parking area on the north side of the property from 2 feet to 17 feet; and (2) to reduce the hard surface setback om 20 feet to 14 feet to allow a 6 foot encroachment for the a ansion of the parking area on the northwest portion of the site. Ms. Dacy stated that becaus of the acquisition of at least four parking spaces, the petiti er withdrew a variance request for a hard surface setback fro 20 feet to 6 feet on the southwest portion of the site.
