A final inspection was conducted on October 31, 1986 of the above address

Dear Mr. Moselle:
During our final reinspection of 7122 Riverwood Drive it was learned
that there is a crack in the fireplace above the firebox.
7he owner states that when they have a fire in the fireplace, a crack
opens up above the firebox and when it cools down, the crack closes back
up.
Uhe brick in this area of the fireplace is supported by an angle iron.
It is known that this does expand when it gets hot, and unless there is
an open space at each end of the angle iron, the expansion will force
the masonry to crack.
Zhis problem must be corrected as soon as possible and we will reinspect
this dwelling on December 8, 1986 to determine compliance. If you have
any questions on this matter, please feel free to contact me at

Dear Mr. McMullen:
As previously discussed in a recent telephone conversation we had, we do
want a smoke test performed on the fireplace at 7121 Riverwood Drive N.E.
The purpose of the test will help determine if the crack in the face brick
carries on into the firebox/smoke chamber area.
You or your fireplace contractor must perform the test under the supervision
and surveillance of the City Inspection Department.
The test is done by sealing off the front of the firebox and the top of
the flue; a smoke bomb is then placed in the firebox.
The homeowner would prefer this test to be made during the week of
January 19, 1987. Please let us know what day would be convenient for you.
