At the request of Richard Miller Homes on April 22, we
examined Lots 17 and 18 Block 2 to determine whether black
organic soils were present under the inplace fill. The normal
basements were roughly excavated at that time, and in addition
were oversized horizontally.
In Lot 17 a 2'+ layer of black organic material was apparent
varying from 3-1/2' to 5' below the basement grade. The water
table was above the bottom of the poor soils.
Subsequently the excavator, Jerry Belair, removed the
organic soils and backfilled the excavation with granular
material. The operation was done in several stages, where-
- - upon we were called to examine the excavation. When the
backfilling was completed we ran a density test which indicated
a density of 97% of modified Proctor.
Based on the above ire feel._th2 foundation -fill is adequate
for normal single family construction provided two #4 reinforce-
ment bars are used in all footings.
