Afterwards I had density tests performed upon fill placed. Please accept this letter and attachments as my report of findings. The proposed structure is a single family residence of split entry walk -out design, garage right. Planned lowest floor grade is 854.1; footings will generally be a foot lower, including garage footings. Walk -out footings will be lower. Based upon my soil borings of earlier this year, fill will be necessary over the entire building pad area. My earlier report of inspection of excavation is attached, including color -coded sketch of elevations of the excavation bottom and oversizing provided. As can be seen, the need for fill proved accurate, said fill being found to slope upward to the southeast. After this correction, fill was placed and compacted. Source this fill was partly salvaged from onsite excavated material, but was in the great majority from offsite. Afterwards I had a contract firm take density tests on fill placed, including performing a Standard Maximum Density (Proctor) test. Results are attached. All tests exceeded minimum requirements (95% of Standard Maximum Density). I verbally recommended formwork for footings and placing the foundation upon this corrected area at that time using ordinary spread footings. This letter is follow-up confirmation. This investigation is subj ect to the "Limitations of Investigation" as outlined on various reports I have prepared for you in the past. Due to the nature of random small volume sampling, no warranty of the full site is made or implied. Thank you for the opportunity to have been of service. If you have any questions on this, or if I can be of assistance in any additional capacity, do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience. LLC From: Patrick J Hines, PE Subject: Proposed Single Family Residence 285 Ironton St NE, Fridley, Minn Date: 23 September 2015 On two occasions on 21 September 2015 I made inspections of the excavation at the above referenced site. Please accept this report of findings and recommendations thus far. As you know, I had performed a soil investigation on the site earlier this year. I found a condition of fill and buried organic to peaty soil, at levels that were likely below proposed foundation levels. I also had found a thin layer of marl just below buried topsoil in the lowest (north) boring, and somewhat high groundwater in this boring. Base soil is a suitably firm finer grained sand. Arriving onsite the first time I found the westerly portion of the excavation completed. I inspected the bottom, finding it to be as expected, and put down some shallow hand auger borings to be sure, finding no "false bottoms. Groundwater level was perhaps less than a half foot above bottom of excavation level at the north end. With the assistance of the excavation contractor, I determined base of excavation elevations and oversizing provided thus far, finding oversizing vs base of elevations to be adequate. I advised that some clean coarse rock may be applied along the north line so that application of ordinary fill and co compaction does not disturb or "pump" the otherwise suitable base soil. I approved the work so far, including commencement of filling in this area, and recommended another inspection of the final excavation. I arrived again onsite later in the day and found the excavation complete. Again I inspected the bottom, finding it to be as expected, and put down some more shallow hand auger borings to be sure. Again with the assistance of the excavation contractor, I determined remaining base of excavation elevations and oversizing provided thus far, finding oversizing vs base of elevations continuing to be adequate. A later office review confirmed this adequacy. A sketch of the excavation configuration, including oversizing provided and elevations of the base of excavation, is attached. Base drawing is a size altered portion of the certificate of survey for this project. I then recommended generally completing the filling and compaction operation. When complete, density tests should be taken on fill placed. Mr Nathan Jones, Tollberg Homes.
