The Fire Department was dispatched at 11:00 pm to 1319 75 Avenue on a reported attached
garage fire. Police arriving first reported the house “fully involved”. SBM Fire was requested
for mutual aid. Police officers evacuated the two adjacent homes. Firefighters arrived to heavy
fire conditions in what was left of the garage and extending into the attic and living space on
the home. The occupants of the home had been evacuated. Columbia Heights Fire
Department was called to cover any additional calls in the City. No injuries were reported and
the home owner was going to stay with a friend.
There was significant fire damage to the home, a vehicle and a motorcycle. There was also
damage to the exterior of a neighboring home. Power to the house was shut off at the circuit
panel and natural gas was shut off at the exterior meter. The Anoka County Fire Investigation
Team responded and interviewed the occupants. The cause of the fire is undetermined but
most likely the result of smoking material disposed of in the garage.
