Fire Damaged Building
Location of Fire: 6231 Carol Drive
Date of Fire: April 11, 2015
The Fire Department was dispatched at 12:16 pm to 6231 Carol Drive on a report from a
neighbor of smoke coming from the roof. A neighbor saw fire on the back side of the house
and woke up the occupants and attempted to fight the fire with a fire extinguisher and garden
hose. Another neighbor called to report the smoke coming from the roof. The fire extended
through the eves and into the attic. Firefighters were able to control the fire with a piercing
nozzle through the interior ceiling in the attached garage and in the kitchen. Several very
expensive parrots and a cat were removed from the home and smoke was kept out of the
living space so there is very limited damage to the interior of the home. Columbia Heights Fire
Department was called to cover any additional calls in the City. No injuries were reported and
the occupants chose to stay in the damaged home.
Fire damage was contained to the attic space and to the exterior wall of the garage. Power to
the house was shut off ant the circuit panel. The cause of the fire was attributed to smoking
material left on a table outside against the garage wall. The resulting fire ignited the masonite
siding and spread to the attic.
