There are a lot of children going back and forth to the park, and last night a saw a little girl almost hit by a car, so I thought I better write to you about it. A few weeks ago, I also saw a collision of a boy on a bike and car at almost the same place. Fridley police were called and came to the accident, and this would be documented. In neither case was the driver violating the law, but in the case of the little girl the driver happened to be going quite slowly and was able to. avoid the child. Since the road behind Burger King was opened, the traffic level has increased considerably, with people also using it as an. alternate thoroughfare route to Holiday Plus or wherever. Although the two incidents I've seen were the fault of the kids, I have seen a lot more cars in a hurry and not aware it is a high risk area. ( who's at fault is obviously not the significant issue.) I'm sure there have been many other near misses I haven't seen, and possibly other actual accidents. Although speed bumps will be a some inconvenience (including for me), I just don't think signs would work. I think the Fridley police: department presence in our neighborhood is really good and appreciated, but an increase just couldn't make a impact on this type of situation. Side -walks like along other thoroughfares would be an solution, but probably would be expensive and not be quick enough to deal with this situation.
