Dear Mr. Otteson,
I would like to make a request for a light in our city. The path between
Mississippi St. and 68th Avenue running north and south along University
Avenue is very poorly lit. I am requesting that a light be installed on this
path between the bridge over Rice Creek and the turn onto Rice Creek
Terrace. My family uses this path often to go to church since we live about
five minutes away from Woodcrest Baptist Church (at the end of the path in
question), but it is often dark when we come back, limiting our safety. We
would use this path more often at night if it was better lit. There are also 2
parks near the end of this trail that have a playground, softball fields, an
archery range, a horseshoe pit, soccer fields and walking trails. A lot of
people in the community use this path for the bus stop at the Mississippi
Street end; there is also a public library on Mississippi Street. There are
many businesses along this road, and this path is the only walking path
along University. There is a school that is at the end of the trail as well.
Having a light here would really increase the safety of this trail at night in
two ways. First, having a light here would make people feel safer due to the
fact that it is hard to lurk in the shadows when there are no shadows.
Second, it would be safer for bicyclists going down the path at night. There
is a sharp decline and a twist on the trail that make it hard to see if there are
any pedestrians on the path. A light would make it a lot easier to see people.
I am hoping you will take this request into consideration as having a light
there would really benefit my family and my community. Thank you so
much for your time.
