Sobiech, Public Works Director DATE: August 8, 1977 SUBJECT: City Share of Installation of Ejector Pump System at 1420 West Danube Road During house construction at the referenced address, it was discovered that a previously installed sanitary sewer service to the site was not an appro- priate elevation to properly serve the house. The service extended from the lateral line (manhole) at an abnormal grade; a grade too steep to allow the normal builder to realize that the service was at the existing elevation. It was determined that the service was improperly installed at the time of construction with no notations on the as -built drawings. In addition, without a minimum.footing elevation noted on the building permit, the builder would only assume a normal service elevation and proceed from there. For the City to replace the service would be quite costly since existing street surface is concrete. Estimate of costs would be as follows (based on existing contracts in the City S&W #121 and Street Improvement Project St. 1977-1 & 2): PVC Service, 50' @ $5/ft.. $250.00 Concrete Removal, 105.6 SY @ $4.95/SY (50' X 19') 522.72 Concrete Replacement, 105.6 SY @.$11/SY 1,161.60 $1,934.32 However, even if the service was replaced, the builder still built at such an elevation that modifications to the foundation would have to occur (extra course of blocks or raising the basement floor elevation). To resolve the present situation, a mutually agreeable solution has re- sulted. The existing service will be utilized to service the upper levels of the house. In conjunction with the upper level plumbing, an ejector pump system at the following costs will be installed to service the upper level: Ejector Pump $ 850 Additional Plumbing 225 Additional Compaction 120 Additional Framing Around Plumbing 500 $1,695 Memo to G. Middag -2- 8/8/77 Since it appears both the City and the builder have liability in the situa- tion, the City should pay $850 toward the ejector pump installation.
