The soil encountered below the sand fill appeared inorganic and was classified as a gray sand clay, with a trace of gravel (CL). FIELD DENSITY TESTS Two field density tests were conducted at the referenced site on November 22, 1977. The tests were done using the Density of Soil in Place by the Sand Cone Method procedure (ASTM D 1556). One Modified Proctor Density Test (Moisture -Density Relation of Soils using a 10 lb. Rammer and 18" Drop ASTM 1557-70) was also conducted. Relative density was then computed by dividing the field density by the Proctor density, expressed as a percentage.
