It has been brought to my attention that due to the style of the
house constructed on this lot and the proposed rear -yard elevations,
that it is your desire to modify the existing storm sewer manhole
located in the rear corner of your lot.
It is the city's policy that any modifications to an existing storm
sewer system when required by an individual's preference, must be
performed by the property owner with preliminary approval and final
inspection being done by the city.
If you would submit a proposed plan and/or sketch'of what your pro-
posal is to our storm sewer system, we would be happy to work with
you to review the feasibility of such a proposal and.offer any sug-
gestions that we may foresee.

EXCAVATION INSPECTION
Concern regarding a spongy condition of the sand fill in the western
area of the basement excavation was expressed by the client. The
area was viewed by us on May 12. It is our impression that the
condition was caused by local, temporary conditions of saturation
of the sandy soil. We suggested that the stability of the material
would probably improve as the water drained from the soil. We again
inspected the site on May 13, and the surface appeared suitable for
construction. (We cannot, however, verify the actual suitability of
the soil without testing the underlying material. This could be done
by soil borings.
DENSITY TESTS
Two density tests were taken on May 13, 1977. The tests were taken
about h' below footing grade. The results of the tests are listed
below. Based on the results of the density tests, we feel the fill
has been satisfactorily compacted.

Thank you for your letter and drawing of the manhole structure in
question. Apparently there has been some mis-communication regarding
who is to perform the work.. I am not fully aware of all discussions
that took place between homeowners, contractors, and City employees
in the past. Obviously we all have failed in achieving the desired
result which is to lower the unsightly structure as much as possible
and improve the local drainage.
Perhaps the best way to proceed would be to meet you and your neighbor,
Mr. Budzynski, on the site and discuss our alternatives. We then can
