applicants within 10 working days if their land use applications are complete. We
officially received your application for a variance on April 6, 2001. This letter serves to
inform you that your application is complete.
Your Variance application hearing and discussion will take place at the City of Fridley
Appeals Commission Meeting on May 9, 2001 at 7:30 P.M. in the City Council
Chambers at 6431 University Avenue. Final action on your variance will be taken by
the City of Fridley City Council at 7:30 P.M. on May 21, 2001.

ADDENDUM TO VARIANCE APPLICATION -REASON FOR
VARIANCE
We propose to demolish existing garage and construct a larger 2 car attached garage with
laundry and kitchen areas accessible from existing kitchen.
The proposed new garage would be built even with the back of the house. The south side
of the new garage would be just where the south side of the existing garage has been for
since 1958. The front of the proposed new garage would be four feet closer to the front
(west) lot line to allow room in the back of the garage for laundry and kitchen expansion.
The reason we request a variance from the standard setbacks on the west and south sides
is a substantial medical handicap issue for both Mr. and Mrs. Nolan.
With barely enough room for one vehicle in the existing garage, they are forced to park
outside and attempt to traverse perilous terrain to reach their house. Considering the
mobility problems suffered by each, this situation is unacceptable.
We would hope that due to the fact that there has been no problem with the location of
the existing garage for the last 43 years, itshould not be a problem in the future.
The extra space needed at the front and rear of the garage is necessary to provide room
for a main floor laundry and larger kitchen area, which is needed to eliminate the
necessity of going up and down stairs to the existing laundry room.
