The purpose of the inspection was to assist in evaluating the suitability of the natural soils for support of the proposed foundation loads. Project History: Approximately 10 years prior to our in- spection, t is lot had been partially filled with soils excavated from nearby construction work. During the fill placement work on site, care was taken to place the soils in and around the proposed building area. The purpose of this work was to facilitate construction of a lower level or "basement" level for the future home without excavating for the basement. Visual Inspection: We have made a visual inspection of the site on July 28, 1977, at your request. We put down several hand auger probes in the natural soils in the building area which were surrounded by the fill placed years earlier. The natural soils encountered in the hand auger probes were typically silty fine sands to the termination depths of the hand auger probes, which were about 2 to 3 feet below bottom of footing. A portion of the proposed single family dwelling, as it is now designed, will bear upon some of the fill hauled to the site. The hand auger probes taken in this fill typically encountered soils similar to those natural soils previously mentioned.
