Dear Mr. Helget:
It was confirmed by an on-site inspection an July 9, 1982 that you
had installed a fence in your rear yard, along the west property
line. This fence appears to be approximately 7-1/2 to 8 feet high.
Section 205.154, paragraph 3, of the Fridley City Zoning Code (see
enclosed), states that "No fence or closely grown hedge bordering lot
lines should be more than 7 feet in height in any rear or side yard."
Therefore, the City must require you to bring your fence into
compliance with the City Code, by either removing the existing fence,
or by reducing the height to 7 feet or less.
A reinspection will be conducted on or about August 8, 1982 to
determine compliance. We are confident in your cooperation in this
matter and if any questions or problems result from this letter,
please feel free to contact me at 571-3450.
Failure to abate this violation may result in this matter being
turned over to the City Prosecutor for his legal consideration.

Re: Your letter of July 19 concerning a fence on our lot
Dear Mr. Olson:
Last fall we had to remove two elm trees in the north-
west corner of our lot. To cover the stumps we used several
inches of limestone rock and planted a tree and two small
bushes. Over the rock we built a "good neighbor" fence in
that corner which extends 22 feet on the west side and three
feet along the north.
To fit proportionally into the location the design of
the fence is built in three heights, each about seven feet
in length, met in the corner by the three foot length. No
part of the fence has a height greater than seven feet from
the top to the limestone rock under it.
We hope that this measurement puts us in compliance
with Code 205.154. If any questions remain we will be happy
to come in and talk with you. Better yet, we invite you to
come to visit us and our property. We think that you will
find in our attitude and the results of our constant effort
evidence that we share your concern for the beauty.of the
Fridley environment. We hope you and the city will support
us in our effort.

RE: Composting Restrictions
Dear Myron and Marion:
Compost piles are permitted in residential areas provided that they
are maintained within certain guidelines. These restrictions are
designed to protect health.and safety and ensure that a nuisance
is not created for adjacent properties.
Recently we received information suggesting that you are
maintaining a compost pile in your rear yard into which you
periodically input dog feces. This is an unacceptable practice
since such materials may transmit diseases (see enclosed brochure).
If this information is correct, it is imperative that you remove
and dispose of these materials immediately and discontinue this
