Subject: Fire Damaged Structure
Location of Fire: 5790 2 1/2 Street, N.E.
Date of Fire: August 5, 2003
Other pertinent details:
This fire began in the living of a duplex rental unit. The fire was confined to the room of origin
but smoke damage was also moderate on the second floor of the unit. Gas and electric
utilities were shut off during the fire as a safety precaution. Excel responded to our call and
removed the meter from the fire unit electrical distribution. The water piping was not damaged
during the fire. The second unit, 5780 2 1/2 Street, N.E. suffered only slight smoke damage
and was inhabitable. The tenant in the fire unit will be displaced until repairs are
accomplished. There were also no injuries. The fire did, however, somewhat diminish our
participation in the National Night Out activities. Special thanks go to Liz Chevalier who was
on scene with the FD's first arriving unit and helped immensely with the fire's people issues
