Enter in Col. 3—desired "design" water temperature. (180° water temperature is recommended if possible). STEP 4. Enter in Col. 4 the required length of element which equals or slightly exceeds the BTU loss of the individual room, as indicated in Col. I. Refer to Table on back—"Lengths of Element required for various BTU Losses." (Form 54-2). STEP S. Check the length of outside wall space entered in Col. 2 and ascertain if sufficient space is available for the length element required at the designed water temperature. If sufficient wall space is not available— refer to FORM 54-2 again and check footage required at a higher water tem- perature. It is possible that by using .a higher design water temperature — the available space will be enough to accommo- date the length of element required. Note: The higher the design water fem- pera+ure—the shorter the length of element required. i.e.: At 180°—if takes 15 feet of element to cover a heat loss of 8400 BTU— whereas at 140° it takes only 13 feet of element and at 200° it takes only 111/2 feet. CAUTION: If it is necessary to use a HIGHER design temperature for any single room—the figures in Cols. 3 and 4 (for all rooms) should be revised to agree With the new or higher design temperature being used, and the "Adjusted" lineal footage required--entered'in Col. S. STEP 6. Columns 6 thru 17 are used to list the lengths of Cover Assembly and Accessories required per room. Note: See Edwards Baseboard Price List for example of how to'figure lengths of cover assembly needed. No cutting Is necessary when using the standard 3-4-5 or 8 foot lengths in conjunction with the 14" Extension "Filler" Pieces. STEP 7. By totaling the Columns—a complete material list is obtained as well as a guide for the installer while on the job. Note: Heating elements are furnished in 8 and 12 foot lengths only. •Note — Col. 5 — The most satisfactory operation and best comfort conditions are gained by selecting a design water temperature which most nearly fills the available outer wall area with heating element. Columns 10 to 12 show the BTUH heat loss for from I to, 9 CUBIC feet of volume. As this table is set up it can be used, for any area or volume by simply using factors of 10 or 1,000. For example, Column 1 shows the loss for 2 sq. feet of single glass as 160 STUFF, the loss for 20 sq. feet would be 160 x 10 or 1600 BTUHs of for 200 sq. feet - 160 x 100 or 16,000 BTUH. For example, Column i shows the loss for 3 sq. feet of single glass as 160 STUN, the loss for 20 sq. feet would be 160 x 10 or 1600 BTUHs of for 200 sq. feet - 160 x 100 or 16,000 STUN. Explanation of Columns Table 1 Column 1 -Single Glass (ordinary window) Column 2 - Double Glass, Glass Block, Thermopone, or solid wood doors. Column 3 -. Masonry Walls -plain or plastered, no air space. Column 4- Masonry Walls -plastered with 1" air space. Brick Veneer -sheathing, lath, and plaster. Frame Walls -lath and plaster. Ceilings -loth and plaster -no floor above. Ceilings -lath and plaster -part of flat roof. Column 5 -Masonry Walls -Plastered -Air space -plus 1/s" insulation. Frame Walls -lath and plaster plus composition siding. Ceilings -same as column 4 with 1/2" insulation. Column 6 -Brick Veneer -lath and plaster plus 1/" insulation. Frame Walls -lath and plaster plus 1/y insulation. Ceilings -lath and plaster with wood Boor above or 'Am Insulation. Column 7 -Double floor over unheated space. Partitions next to unheated space. Column 8 -Walls or Ceilings insulated with 31y" rockwooi. Double floors -same as column 7 with %" insulation. Column 9 -Walls below grade. Concrete floors laid an ground. Column 10 -Use with volume of room with one wall only exposed. Column 11 -As above for rooms with two adjoining walls exposed - (NOT walls opposite each other). Column 12 -Entrance halls, vestibules, or rooms with excessive windows. 1.43 Any area can be easily figured In, the samo; manner, for examples the loss for 38 sq. feet of single glass .is found as follows -30_ sq. feet Is found by using the loss for 3 sq. feet -L240 times 10 or 2400 STUN plus the loss for 8 sq. feet or 640 STUN loss for 38 sq. feet equals 3040 STUN. The factors at the bottom are to be used when some .ether tempera - lure difference is required, i.e. from 0° outside to 750'inside the temper. ature, difference is 75. Multiplying the STUN loss obtained from the table by the proper factor will give the correct STUN lo.s for the temperature difference desired. Use. of Estimating Form ;l 1 1. Fill in information on top of form. 2. Start with living room. and fill in room size in space provided. It will help if the exposed walls • are indicated thuss 18 x 12 x 8 -this Indicates that 2 walls :are exposed, 1-18'. and 1-12', this will help in figuring the Gross Wall Area. 3. Fill in the Gross Wall Area by multiplying the ;total length of exposed wall by the ceiling heights (18 & 12 equals 30 x 8 equals 240 square feet.) 4. Compute the area of exposed glass or doors in the exposed walls ---and enter' on form. S. Subtract the Glass Area from the Gross Wall Area to arrive at the net exposed wall area. 6. If ceiling is exposed, (i story house) compute the coiling area (18 x 12 equals 216 sq. foot) and enter on form. 7. If slab floor, or floor is over unheated space, compute floor area as in 6 above and enter on form. 8. Compute volume of raom for air change by multiplying floor or ceiling area by ceiling height (216 x 8 eq. 1728 cubic ft.) and enter on form. 9. From BTU less table, fill in column STUN for each exposure. 10. Add the various BTU losses and enter total at top of total STUN Columns this is the STUN loss for the room at 70° temperature diff. i1. If other than 70° temperature diff. is desired, multiply by the correct factor and enter this figure in total STUN Column under CORRECTED. 12. Proceed for each room as outlined. 13. The total of the corrected STUN total should be shown in the final total STUN Block. -This is the BTU per hour required at the register or In square feet of radiation. 14. Add 15% to the Intal STUN loss to obtain boiler or furnace size. I = B _ R -CALCULATION SHEET 1501 OWNER a t.g _'® r + ADDRESS DATE :.DEALER.
