Since you are proposing to attach the new garage to your dwelling and to an existing garage which does not have frost footings we recommend the following measures: 1. Place frost footings under the new addition. 2. Omit frost footings under the old existing garage including the common wall with the new garage. ✓ 3. Bury a two foot wide, 2 inch thick board of styrofoam insulating board continuous around all outside walls of the existing garage at a depth of about 6 inches to prevent freezing. Since your home and garages are all stucco or proposed to be stucco, there is some danger of cracking, but in view of the savings by elimination of some frost footings we feel that these measures represent a reasonable approach to the problem.
