Filter System
MODEL SW1750MAR
SwimPro Element filters are high performance swimming pool litters with a filtration rating of 7,200 gallons
(27.3 kl) per hour. Manufactured from durable, corrosion -proof materials, they ate designed for
continuous or intermittent operation, for Installation below the pool water line, for fresh or sail wale.,
swimming pools or spas. Tho filters uIllize a reusable single element, reinforced polyester fillet cartridge u.
provide a high degree of water clarity with absolute minimum care. Their unique design is such tial no wo.t.
are needed to remove or replace the element in the filter assembly. Simply spin off the locking knao, 1111 ;il,
the filter cover and remove the element. It's that easy.
1. Though the system is designed for outdoor use,it is
advisable to protect electrical components from the
weather. Select a well -drained area. one that will not
flood when it rains.
2. For best pump performance, locate the system below
the swimming pool water line. If the system must be
located above the pool water line, it can be raised as
high as 2 fest above the water. The pump strainer
cover must be easily accessible for periodic cleaning.
3. Set the mounting platform level. Allow a minirribm top
clearance for element removal. Be sure the pressure
gauge and pipe connections, drain, etc. are accessible
for convenient operation.
4. Position the system so the filter tank can be drained by
gravity.
'Note: When installing filter system for standard pool
operations, be sure to leave adequate clearances
for the removal of fitter element (min. 28-11/2 inJ
73 cm) from filter and access to system components
for ease of maintenance, serviceability, and proper
ventilation.
NOTE: ANSUNSPI-Article 4, standard -for above -ground .
and on -ground pools, advises that components such
as the filtration system,. pumps. eind heater be
positioned so as to prevent their being used as a
means. of access to the pool by young children.
PLUMBING & INSTALLATION
1. Use 1-112" I.D. Iiexible plastic pipe or hose joined with
Insert fittings aiV stainless steel clamps: or use nglo
pipe with unions.
2. All plumbing connections, on the system are 1-1/2"
N.P.T. When making connections, use p/as/icmale-end
adapters. Apply three turns of Teflon tape or plastic
pipe sealant to the male threads. Screw the fitting into
the thread hand tight; than using a wrench, tighten one
more full turn-. Additional tightening is unnecessary and
could result in damage to components.
3. Refer to the diagrams for suggested valving. 8alf type
valves are recommended where needed.
4. Tighten pump base mounting bolls, if loose
5. Securely hand tighten the union nut between the filter
and pump.

HAYWARD ABOVE -GROUND, POOL PUMPS
INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
TM
SERIES
Your Hayward centrifugal pump has been quality -built
and engineered to give you many years of efficient,
dependable service. .
The advanced design reduces operation and maintenance
to simple, common-sense procedures,
GENERAL TIPS ON PUMP INSTALLATION
For best'pump performance, locate the system below the
pool water line and as close to the pool as practical.
Make sure suction joints are tight. Suction pipe should be
as large or larger than discharge pipe.
Damp, non -ventilated locatlons should be avoided.
Motors require free .circulation of air to aid In cooling,
Insure that the electrical supply available agrees with the
motor's voltage, phase and cycle, and that wire size Is
adequate for the motor rating and distance from power
source. Motor must always be properly grounded, Use
only a properly -grounded receptacle, Electrical circuits
must be protected by proper size ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) ,as required by applicable electrical
codes. All electrical wiring must be performed by qualified
personnel, and must conform to local codes and
regulations.
MAINTENANCE
1. Clean strainer basket regularly►. Do not strike basket
to clean. Inspect strainer cover gasket regularly and
replace as necessary.
2. Hayward pumps have self-lubricating motor bearings
and shaft seals, No lubrication is necessary.
3. Keep motor clean. Insure air vents are free from
obstruction
STARTING AND PRIMING INSTRUCTIONS
Fill strainerthousing with water to suction pipe level.
Never operate the pump without water..tWater acts as a
coolant and lubricant for the medhanical shaft seal.
Open all suction and discharge lines and valves, as well
as air bleed (if available) on filter. (The air that Is to be
displaced from the suction must have some place to go.)
CAUTION: All suctlori and discharge valves must be
open when starting the system. Failure to do so
could cause severe personal Injury and/or property
damage.
Tum on power and allow a reasonable time for priming.
Priming time depends on suction lift and horizontal length
of suction piping. If the pump will not start, or will not
prime, see TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE on back page.
Note; ANSVNSPI-4 Article V, standard for above-
ground and • on -ground pools, advises that
components such as the filtration system, pumps and
heater be positioned so as to prevent their being used
as a means of access to the pool by young children.
4. Occasionally, shaft seals must be replaced, due to
wear or damage. See Instructions,
STORAGE/WINTERIZING
Pump and motor must be protected from freezing. Shut
off all electrical power: - Disconnect cord/electrical
connections and plumbing connections. Drain thoroughly
and clean out any debris. Store pump and motor in a dry,
well -ventilated room.

SEAL CHANGE. INSTRUCTIONS
EP SERIES
GENERAL
Exercisq extrame care in handling and Installing the new seal and sear assembly.
The lapped and polished surfaces may easily be damaged by dirt or scratching.
For safety, all service must be performed with all Hower shut off,
1. Remove pump and motor assembly from piping 7.
system.
2. Remove pump housing cover (with strainer attached)
by removing the seven or eight (7 or 8) housing.bolts
and nuts which fasten housing cover to pump housing.
The Impeller is now exposed.
3. To remove impeller, Insert screwdriver In slot at end of
motor. Hold screwdriver so as to keep shaft from
turning, and rotate the impeller in a counterclockwise
direction. The spring portion of the seal assembly is
now exposed.
4. Note carefully the position of the spring seal and pull
It off the impeller.
5. To remove the stationary (ceramic seat) part of the
seal assembly:
Press the new spring portion of the assembly onto
the impeller, black polished surface facing away from
the impeller.
8, Carefully press ceramic seat, with 0 -ring, Into clear
plastic seat retainer—polished surface facing out.
Be sure black rubber 0 -ring Is in place on cut ridge
of clear plastic seat retainer. Press plastic retainer,
with ceramic seat Inside, Into recess of pump
housing -0 -ring end first. Seat the assembly firmly
and evenly, using finger pressure.
9. Carefully insert the motor shaft through the seat
assembly, and secure motor to pump housing with
four (4) motor securing bolts. (Be sure motor base Is
positioned properly).
10. Screw the impeller, with spring seal, onto the motor
shaft, hand tight, by turning clockwise.
a. Loosen the four (4) motor securing bolts and 11.
disengage the motor from the. pump housing,

ceramic seat assembly out of the pump housing
recess. If tight, tap lightly from the "motor" side.
6. Clean and lubricate the impeller hub shaft and pump
housing seal recess with a dilute solutlon of non•
granulated, liquid -type soap. The use of petroleum or
silicone lubricants can contribute to seal. leakage,
Clean fiber gasket (replace If necessary) and fasten
housing cover to pump houslpg with seven or eight
(7 - or 8) bolts and nuts, Tighten bolts and nuts
alternately and evenly.
12. Reconnect pump to piping system. Be sure to fill
