This letter is being sent to discuss our typical engineered sections for the segmental retaining walls at the
Guzik Residence project in Fridley, Minnesota. This design is based on a wall layout plan prepared by
You dated September 2005. No formal soil report was provided for this project.
I understand the proposed Versa -Lok Retaining Wall Systems walls will be along the north side of the
existing house. An upper 4' exposed wall is proposed around the upper terrace area. A larger lower wall
is proposed in front of the lower and middle ten -ace areas. The lower wall will vary in exposed height
from 7' to 1'; will be about 60' long, and should have a minimum embedment depth of 18". A level
slope is present at the top of the wall with a 2:1 slope beginning 6' in front of the wall No surcharge or
groundwater loads have been designed for the wall.
Based on statements made by you on October 19, 2005, the construction of the retaining walls already in-
place are in general conformance with the design presented in the attached typical sections, You stated to
me that all details and specifications presented in the retaining wall typical sections and Versa -Lok
Retaining Wall Systems Standard Specifications were followed.
The attached typical sections should be referenced for the appropriate wall section height. Special note
should be made of the wall embedment depth and the geosynthetic fabric (geo-grid) length as measured
from the front face of the wall. Refer to Versa -Lok Retaining Wall Systems Standard Specifications for
installation information and details.
The design of the wall system assumes the following:
- Soil conditions: Sand, friction angle = 30.0 degrees, unit weight of 120.0 dMlfl.3
- Allowable soil bearing capacity =1,500 psf
- No external surcharge loading behind the walls
- Level at top, 2:1 at bottom
