Dear Ms. Benson:
This letter is to confirm the information which we discussed in our
recent telephone conversation. At that time, I indicated that I
had spoken with the property owner directly to the west of your
residence concerning the drainage problem on the west side of your
rear yard.
During my discussion with your neighbor, he stated that he believes
that most of the water runoff is effectively handled on his
property when the drain opening at the rear of the dog kennel is
kept clear and unobstructed. I advised him to take action to
unplug this opening as soon as possible and monitor it regularly
to ensure that it is kept open. In addition, I stated that in the
event future observations suggest that this does not correct the
problem, I will be requesting that he connect the down spout from
the rear portion of his garage with the existing drain pipe system
which runs water to the rear of his property. He agreed to further
consider this option should the drainage problem persist.
In addition, I would like to reiterate the importance of sodding
or seeding along the west side of your rear lot. This action (in
connection with your neighbor correcting the runoff problem) will
greatly assist in preventing erosion and minimizing drainage
concerns at this location.

SUBJECT: Drainage Problem reported by David Giese of 1605 - 66-1/2 Avenue N.E.
On June 22, 1995, David Giese, 1605 - 66-1/2 Avenue N.E., visited with staff about a drainage
problem affecting his property. The purpose of Mr. Giese's visit was to document his action. He
does not wish to have City assistance in correcting the problem at this time.
Staff has not inspected the site to determine the extent of the problem. Mr. Giese has, however,
made the following observations:
1. Water from 1601 - 66-1/2 Avenue overflows on to the property at 1605 - 66-1/2
Avenue.
2. The PVC drainage pipe has been cracked and fixed in the past.
3. PVC sleeves have been given to the neighbor.
4. The drainage system has more cracks and is causing more erosion into the creek.

Mr. Giese's daytime phone number is 612/649-4519. His plan of action at this time is to talk with
the neighbor and solve the problem without City involvement. He will be contacting City staff if
further assistance is desired.
