1981 July CITY OF FRIDLEY SUMMER NEWSLETTER July, 1981 No.31 CABLE TELEVISION UPDATE TERMINATION OF EXISTING FRANCHISE The initial 10 year CATV franchise will expire December 1,1982.The Franchise Ordinance requires the Commission to hold public hearing(s)within one year prior to the expiration of the franchise period.The hearings are to determine:(1)whether the company has complied with all of the terms and conditions of the Ordinance and other applicable local,State and Federal laws and regulations; (2) whether the company has provided the City with satisfactory cable television service;and(3)whether the Commission shall recommend to the At _44fl Council the renewal of the company's franchise. FORMULATION OF SUB-COMMITTEES The Commission,as part of the renewal of franchise process,has decided to engage the , good offices of the Fridley League of Women Voters to conduct a study of viewers' � � ,` -•. satisfactions,viewers'interests,viewers'needs and viewers'anticipations and hopes for the future of cable TV in Fridley. A committee of five has been named to work with the Commission in establishing a study and research plan within the coming months. The City Council has encouraged the Commission to formulate various subcommittees,as needed,to assist in the reviewal and research.If CATV is tocontribute(by local access and origination programs)to making Fridley a better community,it will help a good deal if key and interested people in the City help design and think out new contributions to the cable Northern Cablevision Building. system's programming. The library access channel will be on channel 10. The channel's programming will originate from the Fridley Branch Library and be available to all cable subscribers with basic service. SEPTEMBER The Special Operations Unit of the Fridley Police Department in cooperation with Fridley Community Education is again sponsoring the Babysitting Clinic for both boys and girls in grades 4-6.The four sessions will be September 21,23 and 28,30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Community Education Center.
