Hazardous Waste Area Being Considered
Public Hearing For Hazardous Waste
April 19Facility
T
In spite of the City Council's strenuous objections an
area within Fridley is still being considered by the w -
Minnesota Waste Management Board as a site for a
hazardous waste facility. If nothing is done to change \ „ _? = NORTH
these plans a commercial facility could be built where r
- -
toxic wastes will be stored, incinerated, or chemically
processed.
The City has already expressed its objections to the , f
Waste Management Board. The soil is unsuitable, and ••_
the water table is too high. The site is too near to
residential neighborhoods,regional and city parks,and
the intake of the Minneapolis and St. Paul water
supplies—not to mention Fridley's!
These objections have not convinced the Waste Man-
agement Board to eliminate Fridley from consideration,
and the legal process is going ahead as scheduled. On r _
Tuesday,April 19,1983,a public hearing will be held in
the Fridley Civic Center. This is a preliminary step todx f
final designation as a site for a hazardous waste facility.
Public comment will be received between 1:00 p.m.and - ; b ..
5:00 p.m.and again betwen 7:00 p.m.and 10:30 p.m. qt
This will bean opportunity for citizens of Fridley to be
heard. Those who feel that it would be a mistake to locate
a hazardous waste facility in the City will want to be
present to express their views.
Written testimony and documentation may be sub `
mitted to the Minnesota Waste Management Board, '= •
