April 10, 2018

Call to Order
Chair Hanson called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM
Members present: Nick Olberding, Mark Hansen, Kyle Mulrooney, Paul Westby, Heidi Ferris, Sam Stoxen
Absent: Justin Foell, Heidi Ferris
Staff present: Rachel Workin, Environmental Planner
Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Westby moved to approve the March 13, 2018 meeting minutes following the edit to remove
. Vice Chair Olberding seconded the motion.

New Business
Environmental Fun Fair
1)
Ms. Workin will provide the group with volunteer shifts for the Fridley table, bike check-in, Fix-It
and the distribution of recycling magnets.
National Trails Day
2)
The group suggested advertising the event on the Fridley E-Newsletter and Facebook. Ms. Workin will
speak with Jeff Jensen regarding a donation of water/sodas.
Biking Infrastructure
3)
Ms. Workin stated that the City had bike racks at Community Park, Commons Park, Springbrook Nature
Center and Madsen Park. The group discussed additional opportunities to facilitate biking and walking
to the park. Chair Hansen suggested wayfinding kiosks that include mileage markers. Ms. Workin
suggested a newsletter blurb on bike rides from Fridley.
Old Business
Pollinator Friendly Fridley
1)
Ms. Workin updated the group that the Pollinator Friendly Fridley resolution had passed. She also
mentioned that the City would be updating a map with pollinator gardens in the City and asked for
recommendations. The group suggested adding Woodcrest Elementary, Redeemer Church, and reaching
out to rain gardens.
Chair Hansen asked about maintenance at East River Road planting site. Ms. Workin stated that some
plants had been replaced in the fall, and she would check with Jeff Jensen if volunteer weeding support
was needed.
Metro Commissioner Meeting-
2)Vice Chair Olberding attended meeting and will send slides.
