My Grandpa Janet Longi
My grandpa. is a wonderful and nice man. He is a: very special
person to me and his name is Raman Carlson. He is one of m
favorite older persons I know@
My grantipa is a very helpful to me when I didn't know how to build
a paper airplane for a contest at school. I asked him to help me and
soon I could build a super paper airplane, I also won the contest. He
was also helpful to me when I needed some information on how to
take care of a pool for a demonstration speech for school. All I I-lad
to Flo was call up my grandpa and ask for the information and tAe
gave it to me. He sure saved me an awful lot of work and research .I
would have had to do. I was so glad. He even let me use some of his
cl-iemicals and &lot of his pool equipment. I really needed im. He
sure is a great helper.
My grandpa, can also be a kind and loving person and always seen-is
to i-lave a smile. Me and my grandpa do alot of fun thins together

good time together. He is also very kind and loving when me or
someone in my family or just a friend is in trouble or feeling bad.
tHe alwaysl.ael s you feel better.
I reallydon't know what I would do if my grandpa. wasn't around all
those times I needed him like that tit with t airplane 1
helped me on my speech. My grandpa is surely . great and also ver
special nian to me, and I love hin, alOt® I know alot of kids don't
have a good relationship like me and grandpa and t n t ev're
the unlucky ones. So now you know why I think my grandpa is a
-very special person to me.

6 Grade E. Contest Winners
This year there were three schools that participated in the Min, nesota.
Board on Aging Annual 6th Grade Essay Contest. All of the entries
were very special but a panel of senior judges selected these two
entries to go on to the state competition and to be awarded a I
cash prize from the Fridley Senior Center. Thanks to all the youth
that participated, their teachers, and our panel of judges.
Somebody Closeby Davey Ulric
One of my favorite persons in the world is my grandmother, Aria-1
Ulrich. She makes nye feel good, confident, and special about myself.
No matter how much I hurt she'll maks: it better. Even though I live
about 200 miles away from her I can always call or write her.
Grandma Ulrich lives in a trailer park in Wisconsin. It makes me
feel good because she lives by her friends and she doesn't have to live
in a nursing hoes. Her louse always smells a certain way, and her
pillows on ler- couch lay the same way every time I visit® She
always starts our visit by saying Davey, you've grown so much. Its
been ages. I don't mind that she says that and pinches my checks
when she does. I love her. We always give ler extra love because
her husband died about 1.4 years ago.
Another one of my favorite persons in the world is nay step
grandmother Elie Pence. I love her very much because when my
parents go out of town she stays with me and my older brother
Jason. he's alot of fun too® She will be patient when she teaches
me something new. We will play board games or cards on a rainy
or beautiful blue sky day® On school days, instead of laving my
regular cold cereal, Elie makes pancakes, eggs, waffles, or french
toast. She's a real good cook because she used to own ler own
restaurant years ago.
I think older people are much more fun. They can tell you about old
times which is important too. They have so much to give wits-, ti-leir
experience. The next time you see an older person that you see that
needs help upstairs with the groceries, or even being helped across
the street. You help?
I love older people?
