The Anoka County Commissioners have proclaimed May as Older Americans Month. The
resolution #84-40 reads as follows:
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the month of May has been set aside each year as a special tribute to the
millions of Americans over the age of sixty-five, in recognition of their contributions to
our community and our country; and,
WHEREAS, older Americans have a vast source of talent, skills and experience which they
are ready to share with their neighbors or wherever needed; and,
WHEREAS, older Americans proudly represent an invalubale link to the past, remembering
what is good and understanding what is difficult; and
WHEREAS, because the abilities of older Americans are important to the well-being of
our Nation, it is important that they remain as self-reliant as possible while retaining
their self-respect and dignity; and
WHEREAS, older Americans can be provided opportunities in volunteering, employment and
services in an all-inclusive, supportive approach beneficial to all:
NOT, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Anoka County Board of Commissioners does hereby
designate the month of May, 1984, as Older Americans Month in Anoka County.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Anoka County Board of Commissioners calls upon all
public officials, community agencies, educators, the clergy, the communications media and
each American to recognize the vast potential of older Americans and their benefit to
society.
SENIOR BOWLING
We continue to see new people on the lanes and the staff at Maple Lanes continues to be
our gracious hosts, while providing coffee and cookies. On Mondays, we have moonlight
bowling for cash prizes. Last month, Don Ward won the $5 certificate from Fridley' s Town
Crier and Emil Gustafson received the $5 certificate from Bob's Produce Ranch. These
certificates are awarded on the last Monday of each month. Bowling is open to all seniors
in the area. It is not league play, just for fun and socialability. For additional
information, call Maple Lanes at 571-3520.
This is the second senior citizen celebration. The celebration will be time
for food, fun, song, and dance. We hope the seniors of Fridley will be able
to attend the celebration of older American month.
