12 WAYS TO SAV 'MUM C_HRISTMA.S'
1. Drop a note or give someone a phone call who you haven't seen in a long
time.
2. Give the person with a frown, a smile, and let them know you care.
3. Listen to someone. The world is full of people with problems who need
someone to listen to them.
4. Think more of others and less of yourself. When someone asks a favor of
you, do twice as much.
5. Give a gift to someone who can't give one in return.
6. Get a group of friends together and sing Christmas carols to children in
the hospital.
7. Volunteer your time to watch a young mother's children while she does her
Christmas shopping.
8. Make Christmas presents yourself (for example, bake jams, cookies, sew
clothes, blankets, towels or build a birdhouse from a kit) . People
appreciate gifts made by you more than store boughten ones.
9. Have a Secret Santa. Choose someone who lives nearby who you don't know
very well. Send little gifts of kindness from their Secret Santa.
Closer to Christmas, reveal yourself in some creative way.
10. Take shoots from your plants, root them in water and replant them. Tie a
ribbon around the pot, make a plant watcher out of rocks, wiggly eyes and
toothpicks, and give it as a gift.
11. Go out and enjoy Christmas. Take advantage of free Christmas concerts at
the schools and churches. Go window shopping and look at the colorful
displays or volunteer to be a Santa at an elementary school.
12. Last of all, be loving. Everybody needs a friend. Take time to show
those who are usually forgotton that they are worth your time.

A TRIBUTE
A few weeks ago, I drove a bus that took sixteen handicapped children to the New
Minnesota Zoo. The time there proved amusing, interesting and educational. But
the thing that impressed me most was the unselfish act of the man who assumed the
responsibility of watching over these children for several hours while at the
Zoo. I marvelled at the composure and patience that he displayed while facing
the possible mishaps and trying situations that could happen with such a group.
This man, who could have been enjoying some other activity, chose instead to
sacrifice his time so that sixteen disadvantaged children could enjoy a few hours
of otherwise denied enlightenment. As I watched this man, the thought ran
through my mind: Why are some people willing to take the load of other people on
their shoulders, the while asking nothing in return, and the one most likely
answer is that they have an instilled inward graciousness that prompts their
outward attitudes. Just such a man is Dean Keller, who led his children through
a bit of the land of premise. Fridley appreciates and honors such men as Dean
Keller.

More than a merry Christmas
We wish for you this year,
More than a happy Christmas
With your loved ones dear.
More than the precious hours
With friends who are true,
More than the gifts you treasure
That! others give you. . .
We wish for you the blessing
Of that Christnas Day
When angels sang the story
And stars marked the way .
We wish you joy unending
With much love and cheer. . .
We wish you peace on Christmas
And through all the year .
