FRIENDLY FRIDLEY FOLKS
CLUB NEWS
ITEM 1
Helen and Earl Diegs, delegates from the Friendly Fridley Folks to the Wells Clinic
report that the Wells Clinic is experiencing financial difficulties. The clinic, set up
several years ago, was initiated as a purposive act to help seniors and others who faced
inequities in medical expenses. Shortly after the clinics inception a staff of volunteer
and paid workers was organized who, with Coon Rapids Clinic help, proved effective to many
Anoka County seniors. With the recent surge of available supplemental health insurance,
seniors are using the services of the Wells Clinic less, which not only cuts fee income
but results in funding adjustments. Without some new source of money the clinic faces
the possibility of reduced services or even dinscontinuance. The Diegs hope that more
people will acquaint themselves with the Wells Clinic.
ITEM 2
The October 6 entertainment segment of the club meeting was a slide and commentary
presentation by Connie McMillion about her recent European tour. Connie selected the
Netherlands as her first showing, having two other groups that can be shown at a later
date. Connie displays a knack for photography as evidenced in the interesting pictures
she took of the various buildings, canal sights, windmills, parks and street scenes.
The culmination of the show, however, was the pictures of the tulips. Only by viewing,
words fail , can one appreciate the pleasant thrill of the flowers beauty. The accompany-
ing narrative along with the slides were well received by the club.
ITEM 3
To instigate a continuing program of augmented interest in Friendly Fridley Folks
club affairs and activities the entertainment committee is promoting a bingo game for
club members. The date will be November 17, the day of the regular afternoon meeting,
at the regular meeting place. Numerous prizes will be given to winners with three major
prizes of turkeys for the afternoon. There will be no charge so it should be hard to
loose much, outside of your time. Three lucky people should not have to buy their Thanks-
giving turkey.
ITEM 4
The Friendly Fridley Folks voted to pursue a course of action in their attempt to
establish a drop-in center for seniors of Fridley. Ideally, a single building with
facilities that could in effect be a second-hand home for seniors. Such a building seems
to be in offering but would require much more work on the part of the entire club. Land
would have to be acquired, grants and donations petitioned, building plans, construction
plans, and maintainence provisions. Now that the club is incorporated these things are
more likely to materialize but unfortunately not in the immediate future.
In the meantime, the Community Education Council has consented to make two rooms
available in their building (Parkview) . At present, a plan of priority is in the making
as the council has committments to other factors. The council has shown an interest in
the seniors plight and will endeavor to help in any manner possible. The council , not
unlike anyone else, has its limitations and must abide by given guidelines.
ITEM 5

fortune in their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm
