Fire Sprinkler Plan Review Comments

Contractor shall be familiar with this review document and contents prior to initiation of work. The conditions contained
herein shall be considered as requirements for the proposed project. A written response or additional documents may be necessary and are due prior to initiation of the Final Inspection
and approval for issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy or Fire Department permit completion. You may contact the Office of the Fire Marshal at (763) 572-3621 for additional information.
Specific
Comments:
FDC Connection should be a 2 ½ inch double wye

General Comments:
All work on fire sprinkler systems shall be in accordance
with 2007 Minnesota State Fire Code (MSFC) Section 903 and 2002 NFPA Standard 13, Installation of Fire Sprinkler Systems.
1. Inspect the existing sprinkler system and assure that the
required annual inspection and testing has been completed and certified within the last twelve months. If not, contractor shall provide the annual inspection and testing and certify
that activity as required by 2007 MSFC Section 901.6.1.
2. Technical characteristics of added sprinkler heads shall be identical to those in the existing system. Heads must be listed
and approved for their use and be fully compatible with the existing system.
3. If any piping change is required, pipe and/or accessories shall be technically identical to existing
piping and accessories.
4. Contractor shall assure compliance with 2010 NFPA Standard 13 provisions concerning identification of control, drain and test connections (2010 NFPA 13,
6.7.4); sprinkler water supply caution signage (2010 NFPA 13, 7.6.1.5) and riser hydraulic design information signage (2010 NFPA 13, 16.5) and install if required signage is missing.
5. Sprinkler system drains shall be plumbed to the outside of the building. System drains shall not be discharged into the sanitary sewer system. (City Rule)
6. No ceiling pad out
which bars view of main piping, branch piping and pipe accessories above the ceiling shall be accomplished until approved by the Fire Marshal.
7. Contractor shall perform a cursory inspection of premise sprinkler heads to ascertain if recalled sprinkler heads are present in the existing system. If so, the recalled heads shall
be replaced with approved, listed components with technical specifications which match the recalled heads. The sprinkler contractor shall also file an amended permit request for replacement
of recalled heads. (2007 MSFC 901.9)
8. Because the quantity of sprinkler heads requiring modification exceeds 20 heads, final inspection and testing shall include isolating the
system and a hydrostatic pressure test at 200 p.s.i. Testing shall be witnessed by the Fire Marshal. (2010 NFPA 13, Section 16.2.1.4)
9. Contractor shall provide this office with a
Certificate of Testing and Materials for Aboveground Piping when proposed project and testing is completed. (2010 NFPA 13, Section 16.1)
10. A final inspection of work performed under
this permit will be conducted when work is completed. Please notify this office when permitted work is completed.
Maintenance of Sprinkler System During Demolition
Maintain fire
sprinkler system as practicable during demolition and construction work. The sprinkler system to remain operational during non-work hours. (MSFC Chap 14)
Demolition Operations
All
demolition operations shall be compliant with provisions contained in 2007 MSFC Chapter 14 and NFPA Standard 241.
Portable fire extinguishers with a minimum rating of 2A shall be provided
during demolition. (2007 MSFC Section 1414 and Section 906)
Maintain fire sprinkler system as practicable during demolition and construction work. The building sprinkler shall remain
operational during non-work hours. (2007 MSFC Chap 14)
Preliminary remodeling and floor plans shall be submitted prior to approval of that portion of reviewed plan reflecting additional
construction required by separation of incompatible materials.
