Public Hearing to Consider a Plat by Roers CompaniesHe’s being held on federal
weapons charge. Gunfight
killed 1; at least 3 injured.

A 34-year-old man has been
charged with taking part in a
Minneapolis bar shootout that
left one person dead and sev-
eral others wounded in Sep-
tember.
D evord Allen of Minne-
apolis was charged We dnes-
day in Hennepin County Dis-
trict Court with first-degree
riot resulting in death and
two counts of second-degree
assault with a dangerous
weapon.
Authorities said Allen was
among at l east five p eople who
were i nvolved in the shootout
about 1 a.m. Sept. 9 a t Bullwin-
kle’s S aloon east of d owntown
in the 1400 block of S. Wa sh-
ington Av enue .
The gunfight killed 34-year-
old Cortez Maurice Crumble
of B rooklyn Park . T hree other
men in their 30s suffered s eri-
ous injuries, police said.
The criminal complaint
against Allen does not specify
who was responsible for shoot-
ing Crumble or the others dur-
ing a private event being held
at t he bar .
Allen remains in the Sher-
burne County jail without bail
in connection with a federal
illegal weapons possession
case.
At t he time of t he bar shoot-
ing, h e was on parole and sup-
posed to b e living in a halfway
house, the complaint said .
According to the charges
and a second court document:
Gunfire erupted inside and
outside the bar after a confron-
tation between patrons and
security personnel arranged
by “Mo D oe,” which provided
the entertainment for a private
R&B night party.
When police arrived, they
“found a chaotic scene with
multiple people injured from
gunfire.” Crumble was lying
i n the entry to t he bar. He wa s
taken t o HCMC, where he
soon died.
According to w itnesses and
video from the scene, a fight
erupted near the bar’s entry
when two people refused
security’s request to leave
the event, and gunf ire broke
out inside. T he two people
a nd a wounded Crumble then
“stumble[d] out of the door-
way.”
The original pair r an to a
vehicle as a man shot at them
from the sidewalk . Another
man r eturned fire from next
to a nearby orange SUV .
About that time, Allen
emerged from the bar and
s tarted shooting at t he second
gunman .
One of his s hots hit a pass-
ing Metro Tr ansit bus.
“In total, at least five peo-
ple, including the defendant,
were firing their weapons
indiscriminately a t others,” the
criminal complaint said .
Officers tracked Allen’s
cellphone movements and
arrested him S ept. 29. He said
he f ired gunshots after leaving
the bar, b ut “he does not know
who he was firing at or why,”
the charges read.
He said he fled the scene
immediately a nd sold the gun
o n the street. He refused to s ay
who bought it.
The shootout c apped one of
the city’s more violent nights
of t he year. Earlier, J eremiah L.
Durr , 16, of Jordan wa s shot to
death in the 1600 block of N.
Plymouth Av enue.
About an hour later, four
people were s hot and wounded
at N. Ly ndale Av enue and
Broadway, k nown to b e one of
the city’s more crime-ridden
intersections.

Mpls. man charged
in deadly shootout
inside, outside bar
St. Paul man, 24, died after
being shot while fleeing
the suspect, police said.
By PAUL WA LSH

Three shooting incidents
last month involving the same
gunman south of downtown
Minneapolis culminated in a
man being fatally shot in the
back while fleeing, according
to charges filed Thursday.
Darius D. S harp, 24 , of M in-
neapolis was charged in Hen-
nepin County District Court
with second-degree murder
and two counts of f irst-degree
attempted premeditated
murder in connection with
shootings S ept. 16 and 17 that
wounded two men and gunfire
the following week that killed
24 -year-old Brenell Michael
Green of St. Paul.
Sharp remains jailed in lieu
of $2 million bail. He is due in
court F riday. C ourt records do
not list an attorney for him.
According to the criminal
complaint:
Officers were sent about
9:30 a.m. on Sept. 22 t o the area
of Nicollet Av enue and 19th
Street, where they saw Green
on the ground and shot in the
chest. He died at the scene. A
witness reported hearing five
to seven gunshots and seeing
someone running away.
Police reviewed surveil-
lance video from in front of N et
Supermarket , and it showed
Sharp wear-
ing a mask that
revealed only his
eyes as he walked
up in front of the
store, as well as
a man soon run-
ning away.
Sharp “set up his aim with
both hands and fired several
times” at G reen as he fled, the
complaint read.
A store employee said the
shooter in the video looked
like the man who was beaten
in the market on Sept. 16 and
involved in another shooting
later that day.
Store video backed up the
employee’s account, show-
ing Sharp being attacked by
a larger man — not Green —
about 2 :35 p.m. inside the mar-
ket. Sharp fled, returned two
hours later and while outside
the s tore f ired 20 r ounds at t he
man who attacked him and
others in a group in front of t he
store. No o ne was wounded by
the gunfire.
Early the next afternoon,
another shooting occurred
“with the exact same con-
duct,” the charges continued.
Sharp this time fired a piston
nine times at a group outside
the store. He h it one person in
the leg.
Police tracked down Sharp
on Monday, and a search of
his home turned up clothing
that matched what h e was seen
wearing in the store video.
