Summary Ordinance No. 1417
Amending the Nominations and Elections Chapter of the Fridley City Charter
The Fridley City Charter Commission has completed its review of Fridley City Charter Chapter 4
and has recommended an amendment of the City Charter by Ordinance to the City Council on
November 6, 2023. The Fridley City Council hereby finds after review, examination and
recommendation of the Charter Commission that the Fridley City Charter should be amended.
The Ordinance amends Chapter 4 of the Fridley City Charter, Nominations and Elections. The
substantive changes to the chapter were: Section 4.05, Judges of Election, clarifies what makes a
person ineligible to work as an Election Judge in the City, Section 4.07, Nomination Petitions,
refines administrative tasks related to submitting a Nominating Petition to the City for candidates
of a City election and Section 4.09, Canvass of Elections and Taking of Office, restates that any
person elected in the City’s election will assume their office after an Oath of Office is
administered. Ordinance No. 1417 was passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Fridley
on December 18, 2023. The full text of the Ordinance is available on the City website or for
