Historically, law enforcement
agencies nationwide have
experienced difficulty identifying,
recovering, and returning stolen
property. Operation Inventory is a
crime reduction program designed to
facilitate the identification, recovery,
and return of stolen property.
How does Operation Inventory
work?
It’s based on a simple premise:
persuade people to document
information about their property.
The documented information
should include make, model and
serial number. The Fridley Police
provides a user friendly form for
convenience. Store the completed
form in a safe place. Property
without a serial number may be
marked with identifying marks and
or photographed. In case of theft
or loss the information can be
supplied to law enforcement agen-
cies and insurance companies.
In other words,
keep an
Inventory.
WHAT IS OPERATION
INVENTORY? What Happens When I Make A Theft
Report ?
If you become a victim of theft,
Law Enforcement will take the serial number
of your stolen property and enter it into the
National Crime Information Center (NCIC)
database which is maintained by the Federal
Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Providing the make, model and serial
number gives Law Enforcement useful tools
to recover your property and possibly arrest
the criminals responsible for the theft.
Minnesota State Statute 325J.01 thru .13 in
part requires pawnbrokers to enter all
accepted items into the Automated Pawn
System (APS). The APS then queries each
pawned item through the NCIC database
during the overnight hours. If the serial
number of your stolen property has been
entered into the database the police
department will be notified and your stolen
property will be returned.
