Approving an Amendment to the Contract for Organics Collection with
Allied Waste Services
Whereas, Minn. Stat. § 115A.551 sets the goal to recycle 75 percent by weight of total solid waste
generated by December 31, 2030; and
Whereas, Fridley City Code Chapter 319 Solid Waste Management specifies that the City of Fridley
(City) will offer a subscription-based organics recycling program to residential properties with four
or less units through a contract with one hauler; and
Whereas, the City entered a contract with Allied Waste Services (doing business as Republic
Services) to provide these services beginning May 1, 2019; and
Whereas, that seven-year contract expires on April 30, 2026; and
Whereas, the City requested an amendment form Republic Services to extend the current contract
for an additional three years to now expire on April 30, 2029; and
Whereas, the Environmental Quality and Energy Commission have recommended approval of the
contract extension.
Now, therefore be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby approves the
amendment to the contract for organics collection with Allied Waste Services.
