Approving Entering Into a Contract for Ancillary Insurance Lines and Minnesota Paid
Family and Medical Leave Insurance with MetLife, Inc. for the 2026-2027 Plan Years
Whereas, the City of Fridley (City) provides employee benefits to support the health, welfare, and
financial security of its workforce as part of its total compensation package; and
Whereas, the State of Minnesota has enacted legislation requiring employers to provide Paid
Family and Medical Leave benefits to eligible employees beginning January 1, 2026; and
Whereas, the legislation allows employes to meet this requirement through participation in the
state administered program or by contracting with an approved private insurance carrier; and
Whereas, the City issued a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) for ancillary benefits and Minnesota
Paid Family and Medical Leave coverage and received multiple proposals from qualified carriers;
and
Whereas, after careful analysis, MetLife, Inc, was determined to offer the most advantageous
combination of coverage, affordability, service, and meets all statutory requirements; and
Whereas, staff recommend approval of the final contracts for the 2026-2027 plan years.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby approves the
ancillary benefits insurance contract with MetLife for the 2026-2027 plan years as presented, and
also approves the Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave coverage with MetLife for the 2026-
2027 plan years as presented, an the City Manager and/or authorized staff are directed to execute
all necessary documents to implement this agreement.
