Approving a Letter of Support for Great River Greening Proposal for Lessard-Sams
Outdoor Heritage Council Funding for Habitat Restoration at Locke Park
Whereas, the City of Fridley (City) has demonstrated a commitment to responsible stewardship
of parks and natural areas; and
Whereas, Locke Park is a wooded 95-acre park owned and operated by the City, which includes
segments of Rice Creek and the Rice Creek West Regional Trail; and
Whereas, Habitat restoration project implementation would increase biodiversity in both flora
and fauna as well as enhancing the recreational value of the park; and
Whereas, Great River Greening is a well-established non-profit organization with a mission to
inspire, engage and lead local communities in conserving and caring for the water and land that
enrich our lives; and
Whereas, Great River Greening has partnered with the City on successful projects at Springbrook
Nature Center and Innsbruck Nature Center; and
Whereas, the City budgets annually for matching funds for grant opportunities and typical Great
River Greening grant agreements request a ten percent match; and
Whereas, staff recommends that a letter of support be signed and provided to Great River
Greening to include along with a FY 2028 / ML 2027 L-SOHC proposal.
Now, therefore be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley authorizes the signing
of a letter of support for Great River Greening proposal for Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage
Council funding for habitat restoration at Locke Park.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Fridley this 11th day of May, 2026.
