Remodel Review
740 67th Ave. NE
Fridley, MN 55432
To Whom It May Concern:
Introduction
We were asked to review the house at the above-mentioned address to assess the structural
requirements for remodeling the porch on the back of the house. We visited the site on September
14, 2021. Mr. Swanson and Mr. Borkowski were present to point out areas of concern.
Observations & Discussion
The house is on the corner of 67th Ave. NE and Quincy St. NE and faces Northwest. It is
approximately 30' x 40'. The existing porch is located on the east side of the house and is
connected to the house roof overhang (Image 1). The owner plans to replace the porch with
another porch measuring 24'x16'.
The new porch must be framed with 2x8 SPF #2 or better roof joists 12" O.C. or 2x10 SPF #2 or
better joists 16" O.C. The joists must bear on a (2-ply) 2x10 treated beam supported by (4) 6x6
treated posts evenly spaced or a(3-ply)2x12 treated beam with(3)6x6 treated posts evenly spaced.
All posts must have Simpson LPC6Z post caps on top. The posts must bear on DP-75 63"
Diamond Pier footings. DP-75 63" Diamond Piers are rated to 4400 lbs in 1500 psf soils and
5850 lbs in 2000 psf soils. 4x4 treated diagonal bracing must be installed from the posts to the
beam with (2) Simpson SDW22600 screws in each end according to the attached Bracing Detail.
The rafters must be supported on the west side with solid blocking to the house wall according to
the attached Rafter Detail. The existing house wall and footing are adequate to support the
additional load. The new roof pitch must not be less than 3.5:12. Ice and water shield must be
placed on the entirety of the new roof and 4' up the slope of the existing house roof.

Conclusions
The existing porch must be removed and replaced with a new porch. The new porch must be
constructed as described above. Diagonal bracing must be installed according to the attached
Bracing Detail. The rafters must be supported on the west side of the porch according to the
attached Rafter Detail. The existing house footing is adequate to support the additional load.
