HomeMy WebLinkAboutOLD_NEW_COMMENTS Initially I had wanted to reuse the valve and the trim that was there. I mentioned this and the inspector saw that I wasn't changing any of the plumbing. So the initial inspection was based on this. However as you open the folder that have the OLD pictures, you will notice a couple of things: 1) the burn mark at the brass part of the water delivery from above was done by the original installers. Not by me. I use metal plates to protect the wood when I am working. 2) a friend of mine saw the amount of blue/green corrosion and suggested that I replace the valve. You will see the corrosion. 3) the plumbing drainage hole in the subfloor that was created for the wrap-around was too big for my liking. From a metal shop I obtained a 3/8 inch thick steel plate that is 12 inches X 12 inches with a 3.5 inch hole cut in the middle. You can see me standing on the plate to show that it's solid. Under the plate is an anchor tie for the drainage water to hold the plumbing in place when I put my pan in. There is a 4 inch diameter pipe used as a dam for the floor leveling compound that is visible in the New pictures folder. In the NEW pictures, you can see that I covered the steel with Rust olieum, 2 coats top/bottom and the inner ring and the outer edge. This is then shown under the mesh for the floor leveling. I included the pictures of the soldering and the anchor to wood of the HOT line on the LEFT. The Cold line on the RIGHT was re-connected to the copper bar that was used by the initial installers (1988 house build). I initially did the hot and cold sides yesterday, I put the Moen valve blocks back in (took them out to do my soldering) and turned them to block the flow of water, turned the water main back on and let it sit overnight to ensure no leakages. When I found no water or any issues whatsoever, I turned off the main water and removed the 3 valves again, HOT/COLD/MAIN VALVE and soldered the water dispensing copper in place. turned the water back on and observed no issues with previous work. I am not moving the HOT/COLD valves to ensure that there are no leaks for the next few days. The pull valve for the trim is 52 inches from the leveled floor (which will be the approximate height within 0.5 inches for the drain poin). If you would like to schedule an inspection on top of the pictures I have sent. Please let me know. The original inspection was waived because I wasn't going to change the valves/trim, but as you can see in the old pictures the amount of corrosion is enough to warrant updating. I am also including the pdf of my purchase directly from Moen. Sincerely, Charles Hawkins 612-270-0686
